¤ American Civilization 161.11: Self/Identity in American Culture - Professor Buhle
¤ American Sign Language 10-20 (SI10-20): Intro to ASL - Professor Belozovsky
Belozovsky is the best professor I have had at Brown.
¤ Anthropology 50: Discovering the Past, Introduction to Archaeology - Professor Gould
¤ Economics 11: Principles of Economics - Professors Rachel Friedberg and Roberto Serrano
Both fantastic teachers, logical and practical concepts for life, but if you're not a business or economics concentrator you should probably take it S/NC
¤ Education 81: Poetry in Service to Schools and the Community - Professor Benjamin
The quintessential Brown class, a must-take!
¤ Education 156: Philosophy of Education - Professor C. T. Amirault
¤ Environmental Studies 172:: Environmental Justice - Professor Morello Frosch
¤ Ethnic Studies 79: Latino/a Literature - Professor Rodriguez
¤ French 115: Introduction to French Cinema
Who doesn't want to take a class that's all about watching and analysing movies?
¤ German 90: "Great Works from Germany" - Professor Simanowski
Essentially a survey of German literature, drama, and philosophy from the 1700s to the 1960s (German Studies but in English). Professor Simanowski is stellar; the reading list combines the famous Nietzsche and Freud with authors you've never heard of (and are glad you were introduced to). My favorite class at Brown and a good seminar to take as a break from enormous lecture-based courses.
¤ History of Art and Architecture 85: Modern Architecture - Professor Neumann
Amazing lectures, lots of fun, one of the best classes I've taken at Brown.
¤ History 51: American History to 1877 - Professor Vorenberg
Awesome! Professor Vorenburg is phenomenal! Wonderful lecture, extremely organized.
¤ Philosophy 8: Existentialism - Professor Reginster
Best class at Brown. Best teacher at Brown. You wont be able to leave the ideas you learn in the classroom.
¤ Political Science 22: City Politics - Professor Morone
It's the most fascinating material taught by a dynamic teacher. He engages his students at all levels and inspires them to make something of their education. He has so much faith in the youth and you can't help but have faith in yourself, as well.
¤ Political Science 105 - Ethics and Public Policy - Professor Frazer
Professor Frazer is a visiting lecturer who will be here at Brown throughout next spring. His lectures are extremely dynamic and engaging and the material is highly relevant to today's society.
¤ Religion 72: Christianity in Late Antiquity - Professor Harvey
Professor Harvey makes the class come alive with her wonderful lectures about a time period that formed Christian morality and the very foundation of Western culture.
¤ Russian 120: Russian/Slavic Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Utopian Thought - Professor Levitsky
Eccentric madman, he's the best.
¤ Theatre Arts 25: TA25 - Intro to Technical Theatre
Mmm, power tools.
¤ University Courses 11: Hard Choices - Professor Appel
¤ Visual Art 10: Studio Foundation
|
¤ Biology 43: Diversity and Adaptation of Seed Plants - Professor Schmitt
¤ Biology 50: Cell and Molecular Biology - Professor Gary Wessel
¤ Biology 108: Organ Replacement - Professor Lysaght
One of the best classes at Brown. By far the best course I have ever taken, and Dr. Lysaght is the best lecturer I have had here. He takes the complexity of the material and makes it manageable while still keeping difficult subjects interesting. Dr. Lysaght is immensely knowledgeable and manages to simplify/explain difficult concepts without being condescending. By far the best lecturer and most knowledgeable professor I have ever met. I recommend this class without qualifications.
¤ Chemistry 35/36: Organic Chemistry - Professor Zimmt
Professor Zimmt is such an energetic, enthusiastic and dedicated professor. Whether you're pre-med or intending to do research or even just looking for a challenging course, this is it. And no, I'm not suggesting this because I've hit my head. Zimmt does such a great job elucidating such a difficult topic in a fun way that you can't help but enjoy yourself. There's a reason why this class is so crowded - Zimmt is the man.
¤ Chemistry 123/124: Chemical Biology/Biochemistry - Professor Cane
If you're a biochem concentrator, you're only required to take one of Professor Cane's courses...but honestly, take them both. There's not a better professor in the entire track...and the approach to the material is so much more satisfying than any other course. He manages to take material typically full of difficult kinetic equations and arduous memory work, and transforms it into a neat conceptual look at why life happens on the molecular level.
¤ Geology 5: Mars, Moon, and the Earth - Professor Jim Head
Fun class with a great professor who is well-known in his field and very personable and funny. It's not as challenging as other science classes but still harder than rumored.
¤ Geology 22: Physical Processes In Geology - Professors Jan Tullis and Karen Fischer
¤ Neuroscience 1: Introduction to Neuroscience - Professors Paradiso and JJ Stein
Most popular class at Brown university for a reason.
